Windsurfing: Ynyslas Estuary Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 20-25 knots Surf / Sea State: Choppy Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Cold and Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered:
I tried phoning a couple of people (Ben & Dave ) to see if they were up for
a windsurf session but no one was answering their phones. Derek was on the
beach at Ynyslas and said he was going to go out with a kite, so I rigged
my 5.7m sail and Hifly board and got out into the choppy waters of the
estuary. By now the wind had picked up considerably and my sail was too
big. I came back in to change down and also helped Derek launch his kite.
He too decided to change down after just a few seconds of flying his
kite.
I now rigged a 5.0m sail and my wave board while Derek set up his 4.0m
kite. I helped him launch again and then got back out on the water myself.
I was still overpowered most of the time and as the wind continued to pick
up I couldn't be bothered to change down so just pulled on some more
outhaul and held on. The water was pretty choppy and sailing wasn't easy
(Maybe I was just a little rusty!?). Still, I had a good session with some
nice chop hops and gybes, but nothing spectacular. As the tide came in
loads of debris (mainly bits of trees washed down the river with the recent
rains) backed up in the estuary and just started getting in the way, so I
packed up and came home. Not a bad day really.
